Occasionally we demonstrate the tedious use of this loom, but rarely. It is not easy to find people with the expertise necessary to operate this working antique. In its day, though, it was commonly used and was the primary method by which fabrics were woven. Sit down in front of it and imagine what it must have been like to labor for hours everyday doing utterly repetitive work. Then realize that the early 19th century women who did that probably considered themselves lucky.
