WHCPA is managed by a board of 24 directors. Each serves a three-year term upon election at the regular annual membership meeting held each August.

The board meets at 7 pm on the second Thursday of each month. Most of the board members sit on one or more committee. Committees include: newsletter, publicity, archives, building and grounds, curator, and website. Board members not only make decisions for the organization, they also freely volunteer their time and talents to accomplish all the work which must be done to operate and maintain the museum. All of them work on a rotating schedule as guides during business hours. It is a very active and committed group of people. Many of them are 4th or 5th generation descendants of original settlers of Hennepin County.
