Megalethoscope

During the Victorian era, stereoscopic images were all the rage. Some stereoscopic devices were quite elaborate, including complex, table-mounted rotary systems containing 100 images. By far the most impressive device was the Italian machine called the Megalethoscope. What makes the Megalethoscope impressive is the ingenius method by which light and color are injected into the stereoscopic image. The large apparently black and white hand-painted slide which is inserted at the rear of the device is backlit by a single light bulb to reveal stunning color visions.
