Chauncey was born Dec, 1919, son of Axel J and Julia Sandgren. His brothers Donald and Robert also served in WWII. The Sandgren family lived on a farm off of Hwy 12, East of Old Crystal Bay Rd (across from Orono Middle School) until 1923. Then they moved into a house on Old Crystal Bay Rd south of the Roger Stubbs home. He attended the District 94 school before they moved to Minneapolis. Following WWII Chauncey lived with the Dudley Mather family in Stubbs Bay and worked for the Mather Creamery. He was a resident of Crystal Bay (with wife Marvel Hasty) from the early 60's (in a house built by John Ferrin) until 2007.
